Clinical Internships


Pillars Community Health has a long, well-known commitment to clinical student training. All of our clinical internships require that the applicant be enrolled in an educational program that aligns with the internship. If you are interested in and qualified for any of these internships, we encourage you to apply. Please read the information below in full; if you have questions that are not answered here, email jobs@pillarscommunity.org (we ask that you do NOT call with internship questions).

Undergraduate Internship

For students enrolled in an undergraduate Social Sciences program

  • Application window: Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Opportunities: Potential opportunities in Access and Referral and Integrated Primary Care
  • Schedule:Pillars Community Health  can collaborate to set a schedule.
  • Placement and location: Depends on the service provided and available slots.

Outpatient Internship

Ideally for second-year students enrolled in a master’s-level Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy program

  • Application window: Pillars Community Health began accepting applications for the 2017-2018 training year on February 27, 2017. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
  • Outpatient opportunities: Individual, family, group, or couples therapy; assessments and treatment planning; home-based or community-based treatment
  • Schedule: Requires 24 hours per week, July-May.
  • Placement and location: Depends on the service provided and available slots.
  • To apply: Please email jobs@pillarscommunity.org and include: a) a cover letter describing your interest in the position; b) a resume or CV; c) a writing sample of 1-2 pages to give us a sense of your writing abilities on a topic you’re interested in; d) graduate transcripts (unofficial are fine); and one (1) letter of recommendation or reference whom we can contact regarding your professional or academic experiences.
Advanced Psychology Doctoral Practicum

For students enrolled in a doctoral clinical psychology program

  • Application window: Typically applicants can begin submitting applications in February. We abide by ACEPT guidelines—stay tuned to their website for details.
  • Opportunities: Individual, family, group, or couples therapy; assessments and treatment planning; Psychological testing cases, possible informal supervision to student interns and participation in outreach or research
  • Schedule: Requires 24 hours per week, July-June.
  • Placement and location: Berwyn or Western Springs

Doctoral Internships

Pillars Community Health participates in The Chicago School Community Internship Consortium, which provides opportunities for students enrolled in a doctoral clinical psychology program.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Pillars Community Health partners with The Chicago School of Professional Psychology to offer opportunities for post-doctoral training in clinical psychology.
